Remember how the wall used to be?
When it was the dining room there was an arch - a walkway, through the room...
And thanks to my carpenterific husband, the idea of a built-in was turned into a reality!
Three cubbies for our three kids makes storing their shoes in the wire baskets an easy solution to scattered shoes...
Two hooks per locker mean kids and adults alike can hang up their coats and bags when they come in the front door...
And as an added bonus, I got three display boxes out of the deal that I can change with the seasons and holidays...
We built it the same height as the frame around the transom window to give the space a uniform look. This also gives the feeling that the built-in has always been there, from the time the house was built...
I found the hooks at Lowe's and after debating over which color to choose, I'm happy that I went with these one's - I love the black against the stark white...
A totally worth while project that made our home a bit more organized and gave it more of a custom feel!

I just LOVE cubbies and hooks and baskets... I could go on and on. This turned out just beautifully! WHERE did you find the wire baskets?? I've been looking for those exact ones! Love it all!
That is a great entryway and a great way to organize all the stuff. good job
The lockers are just gorgeous. I love how dressed up they are with all the detail trim and beadboard backing. The wire baskets are perfect and just imagine the possibilities of the display boxes! Most of all I love how you turned an unused room into something so functional as the playroom and an arched opening into coat lockers. I love how you think outside the box to make your home useful and perfect for your family.

i am absolutely in love with the progress!!! seriously...this catapults me into the realm of "what I must have now!"
Oh my! I can't pull myself away from your blog! We have a blank wall just inside our front door that I've been torn on what to do with ever since we moved in. It used to house a lonely mirror but since our remodeling projects have been in full swing, I left it blank until I found something that "wow"ed me. ...found it. =)
I know this is getting a bit late for a comment on this - THANK YOU for the link from today's post. These lockers are PERFECTION - seriously wonderful! oh I'm so envious!
I'm so glad I found your blog. I adored your storage. I wish I had space for something that size in our laundry room area (where we come through from the garage). YOu have a very talented hubby - lucky girl!
Love this!
Love it and what a talented hubby you have there. We have this system of builtins inside the back door in the mud room/office. It is a Godsend. Ours has big drawers on the bottom which hides all the little ones shoes.
tammy
so incredible!
Smiles!
Michelle
SUper cute - great job !
Kammy
Those shelves are so gorgeous! I am waiting for my husband to build me some as well. As I looked at the first few pictures I tought, "well, I bet once you get all the coats and backpacks on itm it won't look good." I was wrong. It can actually be used and still look great. Thanks for combining beauty, function, and reality!
I love your new cubbies and I bet your family does too! What a great transformation.
Midge
I love love love this project! Question: was it super expensive to build? Also, I'm wondering if your door opens up towards it or away from it... ours would open up against any storage I put there, but I"m wondering if that would be a real problem logistically or not...
What color of paint did you use in your entry way? I love it!
